Legionella / Legionnaires Disease Exposure in Henderson, NV

Thursday, November 14th, 2013

We have unconfirmed tips that persons in Southern Nevada (Henderson, NV) may have recently been exposed to Legionella, which causes Legionnaires Disease, in November 2013.  After exposure to legionella bacteria, legionnaires’ disease usually develops within 2 to 14 days. It frequently begins with the following signs and symptoms:

  • Headache
  • Muscle pain
  • Chills
  • Fever that may be 104 F (40 C) or higher

By the second or third day, you’ll develop other signs and symptoms that may include:

  • Cough, which may bring up mucus and sometimes blood
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pain
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
  • Confusion or other mental changes

Although Legionnaires’ disease primarily affects the lungs, it occasionally can cause infections in wounds and in other parts of the body, including the heart.

A mild form of Legionnaires’ disease — known as Pontiac fever — may produce symptoms including fever, chills, headache and muscle aches. Pontiac fever doesn’t infect your lungs, and symptoms usually clear within two to five days.

How to Beat A DUI

In Nevada, there are 2 ways for the prosecution to prove your DUI:
1st is by showing your breath or blood had a BAC (blood alcohol content) of .08 or higher within 2 hours of the stop.

2nd is by having the officer’s testimony on your driving pattern (swerving), Field Sobriety Tests, smell of alcohol, etc.

To defend you in a DUI case, a good attorney MUST know how the officers were trained in giving Field Sobriety Tests and must understand the chain of evidence laws to prevent the blood or breath from coming into evidence. As a former DUI Prosecutor, I was trained several times per year in both.
